Seabass bang on course for Aintree

Seabass who gave Katy Walsh the ride of her life when only beaten 5 lengths into 3rd in last years Grand National after being backed off the boards prior to the race made a highly satisfactory seasonal debut over hurdles this afternoon with the 10 years old today ridden by Ruby Walsh staying on powerfully to chase home the Dermot Weld trained Rock Critic over 2m at Fairyhouse a trip that would be way short of the horse's optimum trip and on this evidence this lightly raced gelding may well have improved since last year where prior to the Grand National he put together a run of seven straight wins.

Trainer Ted Walsh who could well be double handed in this years Grand National with the Paddy Power Chase winner Colbert Station who also won over hurdles at Punchestown on Sunday said after the race that he was very happy with this run and that he will have one more race before returning to Aintree with the Bobbyjo Chase and the Racing Plus Chase being considered.

He is currently 3rd favourite for the 2013 Grand National at around 20/1 behind the Willie Mullins trained pair On His Own and Prince De Beauchene and its possible he could come up against one of these two horses if connections opt to run him in the Bobbyjo Chase and victory there could well see him head the market for this years Grand National.
